Copyright Usher Raymond vs. Ernest Lee Straughter

Copyright Usher Raymond vs. Ernest Lee Straughter
Usher Raymond copyright infringement by stealing key elements of Ernest Lee Straughter's 1998 song "Reasons" to create his own 2004 Billboard "Burn."
The two songs share similar "highly unusual" 18-bar introductions and have other elements of "compositional congruity."
Straughter and Usher both worked with the artist Warren G; there is a reasonable link between "Burn" and "Reasons." Furthermore, Snyder contended that because the album on which "Reasons" appeared hit the R&B charts at No. 197 for one week in 1999, the song was in "wide dissemination" and might have been heard by Usher.
Warren G did not participate in creating "Burn" and that the track "Reasons" was only played on the radio three times, which does not constitute wide dissemination.
